Penally Andrena haemorrhoa (f)

Penally Photo: a fantastic Penally Photograph Featuring Andrena haemorrhoa (f)

Photograph Taken On Sunday, May 19, 2019

An orange-tailed (sometimes called early) mining bee heavily laden with pollen watching for an opportunity to return to her nest burrow. The reason she was being so cautious was because of marauding kleptoparasitic nomad bees in the area. The documented parasite of this bee is Nomada ruficornis which I've discovered only differs from flavus/panzerii through the shape of the tips of its jaws. Now that's what I call a photographic challenge! Photographed along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path near Penally.View image on Flickr
