Liverpool Airport Imagine...

Liverpool Airport Photo: a fantastic Liverpool Airport Photograph Featuring Imagine...

Photograph Taken On Wednesday, March 25, 2020

What John Lennon International Airport could have been. Liverpool missed a trick in 1937 with this rotating airfield. The fantastic idea featured on the front cover of the February 1937 Meccano Magazine. One must trust that the airport would have been fitted with a strong arrestor cable: airliners tumbling into the Pier Head Gardens don’t bear thinking about. Lots of super detail in this scene: the Three Graces of the Liver, Cunard and Mersey Docks & Harbour Buildings; the Art Deco ventilation shaft of the Mersey Tunnel behind; a Mersey Ferry preparing to cast off; Liverpool Corporation trams on the triple Pier Head turning circle; the equestrian statue of King Edward VII. Bow-string bridges of the Liverpool Overhead Railway running over the Strand can also be seen.View image on Flickr
