East Linton Preston Mill, East Lothian, Scotland

East Linton Photo: a fantastic East Linton Photograph Featuring Preston Mill, East Lothian, Scotland

Photograph Taken On Tuesday, September 10, 2019

Time to dip into the archives and find a few photos that I meant to post but didn't. I think this is possibly the smallest watermill that I have ever seen. Preston Mill is on the River Tyne (not the English river!) at the eastern edge of East Linton in East Lothian, Scotland. We visited here in September 2019. There has been a mill on the site since the 16th century. The present mill dates from the 18th century and is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. It is Category A-listed and was used commercially until 1959. It produced oatmeal. The River Tyne still drives the water wheel and the machinery can still be seen at work by visitors taking part in a tour. There is also an exhibition about milling, and a mill pond. The mill wheel dates back to 1909.View image on Flickr
